South Korea is set to begin mass production of its K806 and K808 wheeled armored combat vehicles later this year.
This is after the vehicles underwent series of field test conducted by Republic of Korea Army (RoKA) units sometimes between April and August, the country’s Defense Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) revealed on September 10.
The came in limelight after Hyundai Rotem announced in December 2017 that it had been awarded a contract to start series production of armored combat vehicles the army although did not completely disclose the contract details.
Hyundai Rotem is believed to have capacity to build about 100 of these vehicles a year.
The vehicles are expected to be equipped with a one-person protected weapon station armed with an M2 HB machine gun.
The K806 and K808 vehicles share many of the same performance characteristics. According to the manufacturer, the vehicles are powered by a 420 hp Hyundai Motor Company diesel engine that provides a maximum road speed of 100 km/h through a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The vehicles are operated by a two-person crew with accommodation for up to nine fully armed troops.
