A rights agency has called on Kenyan government to speed-up the completion of the 700-kilometer border wall to tame the witnessed incidences of terrorism in the frontier regions of the country.
The Rights Agency Haki Africa want the border that was started in 2015 to be completed saying it will reduce incidences of Al-Shabaab linked terrorists entering Lamu, Garissa and Tana River counties.
Recent intelligence reports have warned of increasing militants crossing over to Kenya from Somalia either to recruit or to plant improvised explosive devices targeting security patrol teams. The terror incidences have been recorded in both upper and lower frontiers regions of Kenya.
Cases of illegal immigrants crossing over from Somalia and finding their way to Kenya through Kiunga, Ras Kiamboni and Ishakani in Lamu East have also increased.
The rights agency noted that when the border is completed, it will reduce the menace of youth radicalization as there will be no way these elements will be able to cross in or out without being seen by the security.
These attacks being witnessed in Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties of Kenya will be a thing of the past if the border wall is completed and securely manned at designated entry points.
