The U.S ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington, announced a 102 million dollars donation to Nigerian for humanitarian assistance to those affected by Boko Haram insurgence in the North-East
In his statement made during the National Conversation on the Humanitarian Development Peace Nexus in Abuja, he explained the fund would help address the shelter, health and security needs of the people of North-East who are still feeling the effect of Boko Haram insurgency. Moreover, those children separated from their families will receive full support.
It is estimated that as of May 2018, 2.3 million people in the North-East region of Nigeria experienced extreme food insecurity, mostly as a result of insecurity, displacement, depleted assets and interruption of agricultural production through out there entire region. Further, an estimated 7.7million people in North-East Nigeria are in dire need of humanitarian aid.
U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) will lead the project primarily its Food for Peace (FFP) and Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) offices.
Hopefully, the combined efforts of USAID and the Nigerian government efforts will help move Nigeria to a more peaceful path.
Since 2017, the US has donated around 761million dollars for humanitarian aid.
