Somalia and the United States have signed joint development deal worth $300 million in a grand agreement, the first of its kind between the two countries in 30 years. The signing was held in Mogadishu with representatives from both sides present in what is set to affirm the commitment by the United States to the rebuilding and stability of Somalia.
USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa (DAA) Julie Koenen said, “The U.S government is committed to supporting the federal government of Somalia’s efforts in achieving stability through good governance, economic recovery, education, and health.”
The development aid is a sign that the US is not only committed to eradicating al Shabaab and ISIS elements but also aiding in the development and economic stability that will sustain the national security in the long run.
