A Kenyan telecommunication company has restored its communication mast destroyed by Al-Shabaab in Hulugho, a Sub County of Garissa.
Network resumed five months after Somali-based Islamist Al-Shabaab brought down the telecommunication mast in the area bordering Somalia.
The militants shot down the mast with a rocket knocking out cellphone communication in this remote area with an aim of cutting off communication and with an intention of launching attacks later.
Residents have been going to Sangailu, about 60 kilometers from Hulugho town in order to make calls and even for M-Pesa services.
Hulugho residents were happy on Tuesday when the network resumed and commended the telecommunication company for restoring communication.
On his part, Ijara Deputy County Commissioner Julius Too joined other leaders in appreciating the national government and the telecommunication company for connecting Garissa to the rest of the country and world at large.
Military Intelligence notes of combined efforts in securing the region and those along the common border with Somalia. Appealed to resident to report suspicious characters as needed preemptive measure.
