President Rouhani has said Iran is ready to increase its anti-terrorism cooperation with European Union (EU).
Rouhani made the remarks during a meeting with the new Portuguese Ambassador to Iran Joao Jose Corte Real in Tehran on Sunday.
The Iranian president noted that to defeat terrorism, radical extremism and its dangers the world must work together.
The president said that Iran is ready to expand cooperation with EU in all fields. He emphasized that there should be no barrier in the way in reinvigoration of ties between Tehran and Lisbon.
Rouhani underscored areas where the two nations can strengthen tie notably; banking and insurance. He also noted that they also use the post-nuclear deal opportunities to further accelerate economic cooperation between the two countries.
In October 2016, President Rouhani in a meeting with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini underlined the necessity for the cut off aid to the terrorist groups.
He reiterated the need to crumble any effort support to the terrorists in the region saying any support to terrorists’ organizations gives hope to the extremists.
Rouhani further warned that terrorist acts in Syria and Iraq remain a major threat to the world peace.
To defeat terrorism, offensives against the terror groups needs to be intensified noting that slow pace in the same would result in the establishment of several terrorist states in the region and also in North Africa.
