President Adama Barrow returned in Gambia on Thursday afternoon and was received by a mammoth crowd at Banjul International Airport.
After winning the much contested presidential election, he left to Mali on January 13; he was sworn in Senegal later.
Barrow received warm welcome; crowd was a cheering at the airport he arrived with reports indicating that the ECOWAS force in the country did a fly-past for the new President.
Notable were members of opposition coalition and host of foreign diplomats who had lined up to welcome Barrow back home. Barrow officially is the President of Gambia.
Jammeh agreed to cede power in last-minute mediation efforts by Presidents of Guinea and Mauritania previously he insisted on staying even after his mandate expired on January 19.
The new president, Adama Barrow, has asked a West African military contingent to remain in the country for six months according to a U.N. official.
