Italy has pledged to help Somalia hold peaceful 2016 elections. Italy will help Somalia especially in security to make sure the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab does not interrupt the crucial parliamentary and presidential elections.
The announcement was made by the current ambassador to Somalia, Carlos Capella while addressing reporters at press conference in Somali’s capital Mogadishu on Thursday morning.
According to the ambassador, Italy will continue supporting Somalia to stabilize calling on international community to partner and help the federal Government in Mogadishu.
Capella condemned Tuesday’s Al-Shabaab attack in Afgoye town, which left 15 Somali people, including SNA officers’ dead.
Capella said his government is committed to help Somalia restore peace and decimate Al Shabaab fighters who have been waging insurgency in the country, to overthrow the western-backed federal government for years.
