Sudanese government on Sunday 18th September 2016 threatened that it will close border with South Sudan if the President Salva Kiir and his government will not implement its pledge to expel armed Sudanese rebels waging war in South Sudan and Darfur areas.
During a meeting last month (August 2016), Khartoum and Juba discussed the armed rebels menace and resolved to act decisively.
The meeting between Sudanese officials and South Sudan First Vice President Taban Deng Gai pledged to take tangible measures within three weeks.
According to South Sudanese Army Spokesperson, Lul Ruai Koang, they will expel rebels fighting its northern neighbour once it receives directives from the high command.
Sudan now has threatened to close border with South Sudan citing Juba’s lack of commitment to expel armed rebel groups as discussed.
"Juba’s failure to commit itself to this agreement entails stopping the transit of humanitarian aid through Sudanese territory to the South Sudan," State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Ismail said through Sudanese Media Centre (SMC).
Ismail further stressed that they are closely monitoring and watching Juba’s decision on this respect.
"South Sudanese political authorities have to take a clear decision providing to expel (rebel) movements" and "there is no excuse for those who have been warned." he stressed.
