On Tuesday 16th August 2016, four men were arrested over alleged ties with Islamic State terrorist group in Morocco.
Reports indicate that the arrested men were linked to the Islamic State jihadist group and plotting attacks in Morocco’s economic capital Casablanca.
According to Interior Ministry, security forces acting on intelligence dismantled a terrorist cell of four extremists active between Casablanca and Mograne, a rural area situated some 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of political capital Rabat.
Morocco announced the arrests of 52 terror suspects late July saying they were planning to set up an ISIS branch dedicated to carry out attacks in the North African country.
From 2002, Morocco has busted 159 terrorist cells including 38 over the past three years all with links to Islamic State jihadists in Iraq and Syria.
A report by US-based Soufan Group indicate that at least 1,200 Moroccan have travelled to fight for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in the last 18 months posing a great threat of homegrown terror.
