A Kenyan court ordered a terror suspect be detained for aiding Al-Shabaab.
The suspected reportedly collects intelligence information between Kenya and Ethiopia with which subsequently forwards to Al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia.
The Mandera court heard late Tuesday that the accused identified as Mohamed Ali Korana and who hails from Rhamu Sub County, was arrested by the Ethiopian authorities.
The suspect was handed over to the security agents in Mandera County in Kenya’s northeastern that borders Ethiopia.
According to prosecution led by police constable Charles Muita of the Anti-Terror Police Unit, Korana has been vital for the terror group as his intelligence was heavily relied on by the Islamist militants in carrying out attacks in the East African nation and especially near the border with Somalia.
The prosecution asked the court for seven days to conclude investigation. Mandera Resident Magistrate Duncan Mtai granted the application fixing the case mention on April 6, 2016.
Despite Ethiopia and share a border Kenya and Somalia, it has never been attacked by the Al-Shabaab as compared to Mandera.
Kenya currently is building the 700 kilometers security wall on its border with Somalia stretching from Mandera to Kiunga, intended at keeping out Al-Shabaab elements from infiltrating the country from the war-torn Somalia.
