March 14, 2016: Bilateral talks between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Government of Japan have yielded a $38 million humanitarian and development aid for the latter according to an agreement signed by both governments’ officials.
The agreement was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdirahman Aynte and Japan’s ambassador to Somalia Tatsushi Terada. The aid will supplement an additional $48 million given to Somalia by Japan in2015.
Japan has been a steadfast partner for Somalia since 2007 with aid to the latter falling to the tune of $300 million with additional material like police cars and technical aid to the security forces in the fight against al Shabaab.
Somalia has employed the aid of her foreign allies in an attempt to economically rebuilds itself, create conducive environment for investment, and repatriate its citizens as she strives to achieve independence on all fronts.
