Highlights:
The 13th Regional Senior Military Leaders’ Course (RSML) concluded at Kenya’s capital at the Peace and Conflict Studies School of the International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC) where senior military leaders from at 14 countries.
The course that runs annually is intended to equip the participants with adequate skills in planning, managing and conducting peace support operations in both African and United Nations missions.

International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC) in Karen in Kenya’s Capital was the host to senior military leaders in a fortnight long training course. The 13th Regional Senior Military Leaders’ Course (RSML) that was sponsored by the United Kingdom through its High Commission in Kenya saw military leaders from 14 countries attend.
The 13th edition brought together senior regional military and police officers and their civilian equivalent from 14 countries; Burundi, Comoros, Denmark, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, People’ Republic of China, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda and the United States of America.
The training aimed at providing the attendees with the necessary appropriate skills in planning, managing and conducting peace support operations in both African and United Nations missions.
The training boasts of not only providing the participants with adequate skills but also learning from experiences of past peacekeepers as they share the challenges and past peacekeeping missions.
Most of the countries present represented either troop contributing nations or nations with peacekeeping mission operational in their countries. African nations especially have expressed challenges and difficulties in dealing with foreign peacekeepers in the country which the edition sought to address.
Similar training are very necessary for participants especially for those in the Horn of Africa who have an active peacekeeping mission in Somalia sent to battle out the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab where they have faced numerous challenges both for the host Somalia and troop contributing countries.
