MOGADISHU: Thursday 25th February, Latest updates from Somalia indicate a mortar shelling in Somali’s capital Mogadishu has left at least four killed and eight others injured.
Police reports indicate that the mortar attack happened near the Somalia’s parliament building located in Mogadishu on Thursday.
No one or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack but such attacks are blamed on the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab. Following the mortar attack, security forces have cordoned off the crime scene and major roads in Mogadishu.
The Al Qaeda lined Al-Shabaab is known to target government installations, hotels, crowded places and security forces in Mogadishu in a bid to topple the Western-backed government.
The horn of Africa nation has been struggling to emerge from two decades of Al-Shabaab militancy.
African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops deployed in five sectors across Somalia have made significant gains against the Islamist group.
Supporting the Somali National Army (SNA) the forces (AMISOM/SNA) have managed to dislodge Al-Shabaab terrorist group from key towns and localities and hundreds of its fighters have been killed.
