Ghanaian President Mahama on his two-day official visit to Iran held extensive talks with his Iranian counterpart where the two agreed joint collaboration in fighting terrorism and extremism which is gradually taking root globally.
Iran has offered its support to Ghana which is in the West African region is prone to the terror activities both from the Al Qaeda in the Maghreb, Boko Haram in Nigeria and ISIS in Libya and other affiliates of the two operational in the Sahelian region.
The two countries unveiled a two level resolution model to tackle extremism:
- Using cultural affluences to fight the extremist ideology
- Intelligence sharing and joint efforts to fight extremism and radicalization in both countries
Iran and Ghana additionally signed agreements in areas of oil & gas and petrochemical engineering that will see the Ghana-Iran ties strengthen.
