11th February 2016: NATO Defence ministers on Wednesday held a meeting in Brussels that resolved to form an enhanced rotational force that will operate in Eastern Europe and set up military exercises there.
The move precedes Russia’s appeal against the formation of such an alliance to avoid provocative steps towards NATO enemies.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, “NATO Defense Ministers agreed on an enhanced forward presence in the eastern part of our Alliance”. And that the alliance is aimed and making it clear that an attack against an ally is an attack against all allies and will be met with equal reaction from the entire alliance.
The alliance will be well equipped with the necessary logistical, technical and infrastructural resources to facilitate rapid and apt reinforcement after thorough consultations with the military advisers of the organization.
The alliance will also enhance their cyber defense capabilities to counter any cyber-attacks as well as increased resilience and civil preparedness for any form of hybrid warfare.
Europe has for the past months become the target of many attacks from the Islamic State based in the Middle East which has prompted the formation of a united front that will employ ‘an enemy of my ally is my enemy’ response to deal with the threat posed by the insurgents.
