10th February 2016, UK has issued Somalia travel advisory for its citizens following the recent Daallo commercial airliner blast linked to Al-Shabaab terrorists.
On 2nd February 2016 there was an explosion on a Daallo Jetliner destined to Djibouti from Mogadishu.
UK also cited other terror incidents in Somalia that have prompted to issue the travel advisory.
In January 2016 there was a major terror attacks at the popular Lido beach in Mogadishu that left at least 20 people killed.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against non-essential travel to Somalia.
UK has cited high threat from Al-Shabaab terrorists, including kidnapping, throughout Somalia, including Somaliland.
Terrorist groups have made threats against westerners and those working for western organizations
Terrorist attacks could be indiscriminate, and may target crowded places, high-profile events, events involving government officials and in places frequented by foreigners.
Piracy is another significant threat in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean maritime.
There is a high threat of maritime terrorism in the territorial and international waters off Somalia.
