BAIDOA, Somalia: In yet another programme aimed at reaching out to communities in Somalia, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Sector III troops on Saturday distributed food supplies to 130 needy families including internally displaced persons living in Baidoa town.
AMISOM Sector III troops which covers Bay, Bakool and Gedo regions is manned by Ethiopian troops.
The needy and displaced families living in Baidoa town received food supplies including ration of dry rice, flour, sugar, cooking fat, spaghetti and Salt. They also received meat, canned fish as well as assortment of beverages.
AMISOM sector III Public Information Officer Lt. Col Fiseh Teklahaimanoti said that troops decided to share their own supplies due to plight of the displaced families who they regard and consider as brothers and sisters.
The troops reduced three meal plan per day to two in order to accommodate the needs of the people displaced from homes by Al Shabaab militancy.
Lt. Col Fiseh Teklahaimanoti retaliated AMISOM’s mandate and commitment to continue fighting Al Shabaab militants that is causing insecurity, disruptimg peace and stability of Somalia.
Interim acting President of South West Administration Mohamed Hassan Fiqi thanked AMISOM ENDF forces for their selfless gesture supporting the needy and the same time supporting the government effort in fighting the common enemy, the Al Shabaab.
Members of the public were urged to come out strongly against the extremist group, share intelligence that will make it possible to end Al Shabaab reign.
AMISOM ENDF reach out programme came barely a week after Kenya’s KDF troops serving under AMISOM banner distributed educational materials to primary and secondary schools in Somalia.
