8th January 2016, latest military reports reveal that a new contingent of Nigerian police arrived in Somalia in effort to bolster war on Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab militants.
The new contingent of 140 police officers was deployed in Somalia under AMISOM mandate to support the ongoing pacification efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
The new deployed officers will replace their colleagues who have served AMISOM for one year.
The newly deployed police officers arrived at Aden Abdulle international Airport in Mogadishu on Wednesday 6th December 2016. The Nigerian security personnel were welcomed by AMISOM Deputy Police Commissioner, Christine Alalo.
The Nigerian police contingent will specifically support the Somali police with operational tasks. This will include, escort duties, cordon and search operations. They will also conduct day and night patrols to ensure security in Mogadishu.
The newly deployed personnel will first undergo compulsory induction training before embarking with their duties.
Nigeria is a Police contributing country under AMISOM. Other Police Contributing Countries include Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
