November 27, 2015, Kenya urged members of the commonwealth country to join efforts in ending violent extremism and radicalization of youths to jihadist groups.
Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed who represented President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke during the ongoing 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Valetta, Malta.
CS Amina called on commonwealth countries to come up with strategies that should include co-operation in information and intelligence collection, sharing, validation and analysis to help fight terrorism.
The world need to synchronize coordination in developing lasting strategies that when executed would disrupt, interdict, contain degrade and eradicate criminal and terrorists elements and their networks.
Sharing of experiences is the best practice to know root cause of youth being lured into the global jihadist groups.
CS Amina stressed Kenya’s commitment in fighting terrorism citing Kenya Defense Forces entry into Somalia, a country faced by threat of Al Shabaab militancy.
According to the CS, security is a vital organ to the development of the country, citing security is what drives great investments and for Kenya is no exemption.
World is faced by security challenges witnessed by violent extremism and radicalization and for commonwealth countries have found themselves as a source, transit or destination of extremist ideologies and foreign terrorist fighters.
“No country is safe and with this conviction should strengthen our resolve in coming together to fight the scourge of terrorism,” she said.
CS Amina reiterated that Kenya’s Government commitment to root out terrorism in all its manifestations.
She acknowledged terrorism as a menace and a global threat that requires the efforts of the international community to effectively tackle and defeat.
