Turkey has tightened its security ahead of the G20 summit in Mediterranean resort of Antalya after spate of extremist’s bloody attacks.
According to credible media reports on Monday 9th November 2015, Turkish anti-terrorist police arrested and detained 38 foreigners including women and children on suspicion of trying to reach the Syria jihadist group, ISIL.
Turkey has gone on the offensive against the ISIL suspects ahead of the G20 summit to be attended by World leaders including U.S. President Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin of Russia and China’s Xi Jinping on November 15-16.
G20 summit is expected to focus on the Syrian conflict, war against ISIL and the refugee crisis.
Anti-Terrorism Operations
The police operation saw nationals from Iran, Iraq, and Indonesia among other central Asian countries being held in the southern province of Adana
The detained included 10 women and 15 children. 2 Turks were also arrested for aiding the foreigners. On Friday 6th November 2015, the anti-terrorism police nabbed at least 20 other foreigners in the G20 host city of Antalya.
On Saturday 7th November 2015 another round of security operations saw another 7 foreigners arrested in Adana on suspicion of planning to join ISIL, while the army said 12 suspects were detained in Karkamis on the Syrian border on Sunday 8th November 2015.
Turkey has faced several attack linked to Islamic State militants including the recent twin suicide bombing in Ankara peace rally that killed 102 people.
Turkey and its NATO allies have stepped up security on the long and porous border with Syria. More than 2,300 suspected extremists have been expelled since 2014 according to intelligence reports.
