Thursday 8th October 2015, Cameroon has sent a troop of 500 soldiers to bolster the recently established Multinational Joint Task Force to battle out the Boko Haram insurgency.
While addressing the media, Cameroon’s 4th Military Region’s commander, Colonel Issa Babatura revealed that the 500 soldiers were deployed Wednesday and already had arrived at the border of Chad on Thursday ready for the mission.
In July the Lake Chad Basin Commission which comprises of Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Benin agreed to form and bring the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF)’s total troop strength up to some 10,500 to counter militancy threat in the region. It is supported by the African Union and the force is headquartered in Chadian capital Ndjamena.
Boko Haram militants reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIL terrorist group and now the group has adopted new a name “Islamic State in West Africa Province”
Boko Haram insurgent group which has home base in Nigeria has extended its campaigns and now has conducted several cross-border attacks in Chad, Niger and Cameroon in recent months.
