Nigerian army confirmed that over 100 Boko Haram insurgents were killed in a heavy fight as troops engaged them on the country’s northeastern, Goniri town in Yobe state.
The military operation that began on Monday 5th October 2015 is expected to continue battling and flushing out Boko Haram militants from their hideouts.
According to Nigeria Army spokesman Sani Usman in a statement released on Wednesday, gallant troops managed to repel Boko Haram attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the invading terrorists.
During the operations, 100 militants were killed and at least seven Nigerian soldiers were also killed fierce morning battle.
The operation also saw seizure of large arms cache. At least one general purpose machine gun, two rocket-propelled grenades, nine AK-47 rifles, belted rounds of 7.62 (NATO) ammunitions as well as various wires used for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) plus seven primed IEDs were recovered.
On Tuesday, the army issued another statement that they arrested Boko Haram top financier in in Bama town of northeastern Borno state. During the operations, dozens of militants were also killed in the raid on the group’s hideout in the area and $5,000 was recovered from their dens.
