Tuesday 8th September 2015, U.S. through the State Department highlighted reopening new diplomatic mission with Somalia.
U.S. announcement and commencement of diplomatic operations in Somalia warmly welcomed with great enthusiasm by the Federal government of the Republic of Somalia.
Due to security challenges in Somalia, the U.S. Mission to Somalia will be located strategically in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
During the impromptu visit on May 5th to Somalia U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry communicated to Somalia President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Prime Minister of U.S. intentions of strengthening U.S. – Somalia bilateral relationship.
Wednesday 9th September 2015, President Mohamud and his premier thanked to the U.S. government for its continuous support to Somalia and look forward to continued friendship, collaboration, and deep partnership between the two countries.
“We appreciate and value U.S. efforts to promote good governance, accelerate the development of our security forces, and help us lay the foundations necessary for sustainable and enduring prosperity”, said Somalia leaders.
The leaders extended a warm welcome to the U.S. Mission to Somalia Chargé d’Affaires after the country withdrew its diplomatic mission from the war-torn nation in the early 1990s.
