Kenya’s Defence Committee of Parliament has concluded a two-day meeting to Somalia. The committee arrived in Somalia on Tuesday 18th August in Mogadishu for the meeting with the Somalia government officials.
The two-day visit by the committee was characterized with meetings with Somali parliamentarians, senior government officials as well as AMISOM officials in Somalia.

Members of Kenya’s Defence Committee held a two-day visit to Somalia led by the deputy chairman Ilyas Barre Shill among others. The team arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday 18th August for the two-day official visit.
The committee held meetings with Somali government officials, members of parliament of Somalia as well as AMISOM officials in Somalia where the commended the role of the AU forces in bringing calm in Somalia.
The Defence Committee noted with appreciation the work of securing the Southern Somalia by the AMISOM troops especially through the operation in Juba Corridor that had large concentration of the Al Shabaab militants.
The Defence Committee that is comprised of legislators affirmed Kenya’s commitment to stabilize Somalia and forge a stronger relationship both the Federal government and the Somali people as a whole.
The committee stressed the need to support the Somali government not only in the fight against the Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen but also in re-establishing the vital institutions that will ensure the smooth transition to sustain the already recaptured areas.
Efforts by the Kenya Defence Forces were lauded by the committee members who said the reduction of terror cells that were either regrouping or forming was paramount in ensuring sustainability in the grassroots where the militants were driven out from.
Kenya’s foreign policy towards Somalia is etched towards maintaining peace in the country and restoring stability due to a lot of geopolitical issues and the reliability of her security to a peaceful Somalia especially in the North Eastern region.
