The war against the Nigeria based Islamist terror organization Boko Haram yielded result as the Chadian authorities reported the arrest of a key commander in N’Djamena Chad.
Baana Fanay alias Mahamat Moustapha has been responsible for the trafficking of weapons into Nigeria to replenish the militia’s armory. He was arrested on Sunday after a ferocious resistance with two other terrorists. In addition to buying weapons for the militants he was also a major recruiter for the Boko Haram.
A search into the terrorist’s house various dangerous weapons were recovered together with documents from the leader Abubakar Shekau written in Arabic and targeted at the group’s recruits.
The arrest of Baana Fanay has led to the arrest of other several key players in the Boko Harm network embedded in Chad including a financier who is being interrogated by the Chadian authorities.
The war against Boko Haram has been intensified especially in Chad after June’s attacks that killed38 people and injured 100 in N’Djamena as the Chadian police fight to dismantle the network in Chad.
Since the attack over 74 people suspected to be involved both with the attack and the outlawed jihadists have been arrested and are being investigated.
Boko Haram is steadily weakening and using desperate tactics to survive after joint West Africa troops joined the Nigerian troops in the fight. The combatants have lost control of their main bases as the troops zero in on them to decapitate the network that has been threatening the stability of the oil producing country and the region at large.
