Security assessment of Baringo and Turkana counties indicate that local leaders could be having information on the whereabouts of gunmen, bandits and cattle rustlers who are destabilizing peace in the region.
These findings come at a time when Kenya’s deputy Inspector General of Police Grace Kaindi and Rift Valley Commissioner Osman Warfa escaped death after they were allegedly shot by a wounded Nadome massacre survivor.
Kenyan Military has for this reason been deployed in the region, with hundreds of soldiers strategically placed to patrol the area and mop up arms being used by cattle rustlers.
The deployment of well trained Kenya Defence Forces in the region is set to make a stop on the cattle rustlers by conducting disarmament operation across the region, among other tactics set to be implemented.
The government has further released military armed helicopters which will conduct continuous survey in the region during the operation to provide an aerial view during the operation.
An intelligence report has indicated that the rise in numbers of armed cattle herders could pose a greater threat in the region since it is not clear where these arms go to once the villagers loose battle to cattle rustlers during an attack.
