Event; Somali based jihadists Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen militants attempted to ambush a Kenya Army Border Operations Special unit forward base.
The militants also staged an attack
at the village of Haamey a tiny frontier village 40 kilometers from the border with Somalia.
The militants torched 3 thatched huts. Army personnel from the forward base at Liboi were called in and effectively stopped the cross-border incursion.
Military Intelligence reports show at least 26 militants from the Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen group were killed by Kenya Army during the operations. Dozens others escaped with gun injuries.
Assessment
The porous Kenya-Somalia border has factored increase in terrorism acts in the border regions of the republic of Kenya.
Kenya has commenced the construction of a wall that will separate the two countries and effectively neutralize the threat posed by militants.
The cross-border attack signals escalation of terrorists militant strategy. It further shows existence of elements of Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen militants mobile bases near the Somali border with Kenya.
Analysis shows that Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen militants may be trying to establish larger operating bases in areas 100 kilometers from the Kenyan border with the intent to conduct future terror and militant attacks.

Twenty-six dead and dozens more wounded who Al Shabaab evacuated to safety. Apparently no pursuit was launched to eliminate this rather sizable unit of Al Shabaab fighters?
Peter Kanda must be referring to someone else; my comments come from Nairobi. And my comments and observations are generally well informed and based on facts!
That was commendable job from kenya army.kudos soldiers of kenya.
Samuel Gikuru should take a break. I have criticized American military operations as well. Sometimes there are right ways and wrong ways to do things!

Kudos KDF for the prompt response. The fact that there were no casualties on KDF side speaks volumes on the strategy and nullifies any criticism on pursuit stories. What is the point of destroying 100+ Al Shabaab in one strike at the loss of several of our own? I’d rather go for a 26 dead at zero loss with 74 more to be hunted down. Its called striking fear at the enemy!
That photo was taken at 30/05/2013,there is a high probability this story is a makeup.
