In the latest ramped-up offensives by US and Somali this past week, the operation has left 81 Al-Shabaab militants killed in south western Somalia region of Bay.

At the same time AMISOM and Somali Army forces continued to wage an onslaught against the Islamist militant group in Lower and Middle Shabelle regions in the southern part of the country whereby dozens of their fighters have been killed.

Confirming on the operations, Information Minister Abdirahman Osman and the Intelligence agency NISA on Sunday said 81 militants were killed in airstrikes in Jilib district some 380 km south of the capital Mogadishu. Jilib is the Headquarter of the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.

“Somali security forces conducted special operations in Jilib district and destroyed an Al-Shabaab camp where terrorists were regrouping to launch attacks on Gedo region area,” Osman said in a statement issued in Mogadishu. “Some 81 militants were killed, a number of vehicles and heavy weapons destroyed.” Other explosive elements like TNT, RDX, Potasium Nitrate, sodium nitrate also recovered.
