At least 30 Al Shabaab militants were apprehended on Monday 12th October 2015 when security operations were conducted in the locality of Burhakabo Town.
Burhakabo town Deputy Commissioner Hussein Mohamed Ali confirmed that Somalia security forces managed to arrest 30 members of Al Shabaab in an operation that took at least 24 hours.
Through a tip-off from local residents the military operation targeted suspected houses in Warabale, Dhunkasal and other villages neighbouring Burhakabo district.
“We are holding 30 Al Shabaab suspects seized in the operations. They are currently being questioned over Al Shabaab connections at the police custody in Burhakabo,” said Mr Ali.
The Burhakabo deputy DC refuted news that had spread that the town was under Al Shabaab siege disproving reports aired by local media as baseless and a blatant lie.
Burhakabo administration underlined that the military operations will continue until the town and its locality is free of Al Shabaab militants and citizenry security is assured.
