Highlights:
Zambian Air Forces (ZAF) is set to receive the first shipment of fighter-trainer jets from Chinese Hogdu Aircraft Industry Group (HAIG) early 2016.
In April 2014, Zambia ordered 6 Hogdu Falcon L-15 supersonic lead-in fighter/trainer jets at a cost of $100 million set to revolutionize the Zambia Air Force.
Summary:
HAIG a leading Chines aircraft manufacturer is slated to deliver the first of 6 Hogdu Falcon L-15 to Zambia after they post pictures of ZAF pilot and aircraft technicians after completion of conversion training in operation and maintenance in China’s Nanchang City.
The L-15 is designed to issue basic training on fighter jets to ZAF in preparation for the fourth-generation high performance Chinese-made J-10 and Russian-made Su-75 scheduled to boost the ZAF aircraft catalogue. Zambia is also seeking to secure her air space with new P-18 aerial defense radar systems.
China and Zambia have formed a strong alliance with China slated to be the sole supplier of aircraft with notable supplies including; 16 Karakorum- light attack and trainer jets and 7 Harbin Z-9 light helicopters delivered between 1999 and 2012.
The new fleet is in line with the modernization of the ZAF geared towards improving the aircraft capabilities, operation capabilities and response to public emergency relief and evacuation need both in Zambia and the peacekeeping missions.
