Ugandan security forces confirmed arrest of a former intelligence chief and outspoken critic of President Yoweri Museveni Military General David Sejusa for causing tensions ahead of elections.
The military general is actively involved engaged in supporting partisan politics and even inciting people to boycott the February 18, 2016 presidential elections.
Sejusa was arrested on Sunday for calling President Yoweri Museveni a ‘dictator’ and was detained at a military barracks in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
“It is unacceptable for a serving military officer to threaten the government, to threaten the democratic process and say we should not go for election and take over power by ourselves,” a Government spokesman Ofwono Opondo was quoted saying.
Sejusa who had sought asylum in London returned in Uganda in December 2014 and since then has maintained his criticism of government causing tensions ahead of February 18 polls.
