The Uganda Defense Forces (UPDF) has taken the final delivery of 2 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter aircraft's from Russia.
Russian arms company Rosoboronexport sold the multi-role fighter jets to the Republic of Uganda for US$740 million in May 2011.
The aircrafts are flown by Russian airmen though training of pilots from Uganda has been ongoing.
Uganda faces different types of threats. The threats are both internal and external.
The civil war in the Sudan's and the Central Africa regions of CAR and DRC continue to pose a significant threat to Uganda's national security.
Political instability in Burundi and South Sudan may create situations that can be easily exploited by militants, and being well armed to combat aggression is urgent.
Protecting the Lake Albert oil fields from militancy and any external aggression is also a critical point in Uganda's defense objectives.

kenya bought that ka 2 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter aircraft’s from Russia in the year 2005, from then we have acquired more sophisticated air crafts like B17 worldclass loards. we don’t need to worry Kenya iko imare. we are now moving towards having Kenya nuclear plant in 2017.
wycliffe koech…..there is no SU-38 only SU 35 is the highest in the the ranks of Sukhoi…two….1 F-35 is worth $101,000,0000 and thats not counting maintenance or training costs, plus Kenya isnt part of the partner nations assisting in the development of the F-35…We will do well with an F16, F15, Dassault Rafaele, or Saab Gripen 39 or a MIG 35 which are excellent counterparts to the above mentioned flanker. bet we arent ready for a 5th Generation fighter…until we develop our economy…
