The United States (U.S.) reiterated its commitment in the ongoing war against terrorism. On Tuesday 13/3/2019, the U.S. promised that it will continue supporting Kenya in an effort to stem down increased threat it has faced from the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab terror group.
Kyle McCarter, the incoming U.S. Ambassador to Kenya reassured of Washington’s continued support for Kenya in the war against terrorism.
McCarter underscored that national security is extremely important to both countries.
According to the new envoy U.S. will do everything it can to help prevent Kenya from being used as a terrorist gateway by enhancing the two countries’ strategic alliance to defeat terrorist threats.
He also touched on the strong bond between Kenya and the U.S. saying Kenya is a top priority for Trump’s administration. This is after a historic meeting between President Trump and President Kenyatta in 2018, and by the many recent high-level visits to Kenya by senior US officials.
Kenya has suffered several attacks from the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Shabaab since its Armed Forces crossed over to Somalia to battle the terrorist group.
McCarter made the remarks when he presented his credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta in State House, Nairobi.
