OSINT SUMMARY
17th December 2015, two are feared dead and another injured after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked a pharmaceutical supplies vehicle at Milihoi of Lamu County.
The incident happened on Wednesday shortly after 6pm in the evening. Initial police reports reveal that heavily armed gunmen ambushed a supplies vehicle, killed the driver emptied substantial quantity the medical supplies before torching the vehicle.
The pharmaceutical canter vehicle was headed from Mokowe to Mpeketoni, Lamu.
Shortly, another motorist was shot by the same gunmen after they commandeered his vehicle to stop then they fled into the expansive Boni forest with the pharmaceutical supplies.
The motorist was taken to a hospital in Mpeketoni for treatment.
Police responded in a short while and gunfire ensued in Mkunumbi where police suspected the gunmen were firing to scare off security agents and residents as they fled into the forest.
According to the Regional police commander speaking at the crime scene, he confirmed one fatality and the burnt vehicle.
A contingent led by county commander Chrispus Mutali drawn the KDF, GSU, AP and Kenya police immediately cordoned off the area and launched the joint manhunt of the gunmen suspected to be Al Shabaab elements.
Al Shabaab active cell are trying to pull an attack with the latest guerilla attack witnessed in Mandera County where they ambushed passengers buses but fled when overpowered by security on board.
In Boni forest where there is a major security operation dubbed ‘Operation Linda Boni’ is vast forest still believed to harbor an Al Shabaab Jaysh Ayman cell.
KDF operations in Boni are suffocating the militants from food and medical supplies.
Buses with security on board that were traveling either to Lamu or Mombasa have been diverted to Mokowe and Mpeketoni as a security precaution.
Public urged to be alert and report any unusual activity or characters to the nearest authorities.
However, the security at the coastal region is heightened as the regional hosts thousands of local and international tourists during the festive season.
