
Ugandan Police on Thursday 24th September, issued a terror on a possible attack by the Somali based Harakat Al Shabaab al Mujahedeen in mosques in the country and especially in the country’s capital Kampala.
The alert was prompted by credible intelligence indicating the militants’ intent to attack Ugandan mosques during the Eid al-Adha festivities.
The Ugandan police force has launched a crackdown on the cell behind the planned attack additionally urging the public to volunteer any information that could help the police in their hunt.
Citizens and residents of Uganda and especially Kampala have been urged to exercise extra caution and vigilance during the festivities. Simultaneously, police have increased security, and taken precautionary measures in and around the city especially around Mosques to protect the general populace.
Ugandan Police as well as other police forces in the East African region, the home-base for the Al Shabaab have in the recent past increased their intelligence with the increased threats from the militants. The increased security measures and vigilance not only have they been able to thwart attacks but preempt would-be deadly attacks.
Countries in the East Africa region have had frequent threats and attacks conducted by the Shebab as they are troop contributing countries to the AMISOM peacekeeping force in Somalia aimed and defeating the militants.
