February 22, 2016: Key pro-al Shabaab elder in Adado has defected to the Somali National Army soldiers after he deserted the group.
Ahmed Ali Gees said the defected from the Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen due ideological difference with the group after he realized the group was misrepresenting their agenda and Islam.
Ahmed Ali has been identified as one of the traditional elders in the region backing the al Shabaab, providing the necessary assistance to the group living in the region.
The number of strategic al Shabaab member defecting to the government including senior officials of the al Shabaab has continued to increase as the group losses major strategic regions they once controlled.
