The latest Al Shabaab attack in Kenya at the Garissa Universities has spread a wave of fear and lack of confidence in the security systems in Kenya.
However, President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Kenyans that his government shall continue to fight against terrorism and shall ensure that the nation’s peace and tranquility is restored.
The intensified fight against terrorism following the latest attack is a way of ensuring that the country’s development is not interfered with in any way. This, together with measures to curb corruption in Kenya shall ensure that Kenya’s economic stability goes a notch higher in East and Central Africa.
The president’s affirmation of continued fight against terrorism comes at a time when the World Bank indicated that the country’s security risk posed by the extremist groups has the potential to undermine gains made in the East African nation’s economy.
These threats and attacks majorly by the Al Shabaab militia group has to some extent withdrawn investors from Kenya and continues to pose more threat to Kenya’s economy despite the country’s efforts in boosting her economy.
The president however stated that the fight against terrorism in Kenya can only be successfully achieved through combined efforts from the government and the citizens.
He further indicated that Muslims in the country should come together with an aim of speaking one language against terrorism.
Other economic areas which seem to have been affected by terror attacks include tourism which is one of the major economic boosts in Kenya.
Kenya’s potential to thrive in her economy and experience sustained growth is one of the major factors which the government is working on. However, graft and terror attacks have continuously threatened such efforts.
International organizations and global leaders recently commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for displaying his support in the fight against graft by asking a section of public servants to step aside following allegations of corruption and abuse of office.This according to global leaders was a right move towards rooting out corruption in Kenya.
The fight against terrorism in Kenya according to the President will be more effective if the government, religious leaders, citizens and other internationally supporting bodies all come together for the same course.
He stated that his government is currently working on measures to improve on both locals and foreigners protection against the insurgents by the Al Shabaab.
These attacks which have majorly affected northern Kenya, Nairobi and Mombasa, will soon stop as Kenya is tirelessly working on her border security against invasion.
The government further said that it has stepped up its naval patrols along the Indian Ocean in order to prevent militants coming into the country via the open waters.
