14th December 2015, latest military report reveals that a one Kenyan soldier succumbed injuries sustained after militias aligned to the Somali pro-ISIS militants ambushed on their army truck as they headed to Mandera in Northeastern Kenya.
Another two were also injured in the Mandera ambush.
Confirming the militants ambush on the army vehicle, Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia said that Kenyan soldiers travelling from Nairobi were ambushed by splinter pro-ISIS fighters between Elwak and Lafey towns.
The locality of the attack is near to the Kenya’s border with Somalia, making it easy for the militants to attack and hastily moving back into Somalia territory before Kenyan military reinforcements could arrive at the scene.
In the recent past weeks, Al Shabaab militants have allegedly claimed to have crossed Kenyan North eastern through the Kenya-Somalia porous border and even claiming to have lectured local residents.
