14th December 2015, the Kenya Navy which is a maritime defense component of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) arrested over 100 suspicious men at the Indian Ocean deep sea.
Saturday 12th December 2015, Kenya Naval team during sea patrols intercepted two boats near Kilifi coastal line and arrested all men on board.
According to corresponding police reports from Kilifi and Mombasa counties, the suspects were arrested by the Navy patrol troops in the Indian Ocean close to Takaungu and Mtwapa townships of Kilifi County at around 3pm on Saturday.
The suspects who included some Kenyans and Tanzanian claimed to the Navy patrol team that they were in the ocean fishing though according to police reports, no fishing gear was found on the boats.
The Kenyan Navy troops have since then handed the suspects over to the Kenya police for interrogation.
The men are held by the Kenya authorities in different undisclosed locations in Kilifi and Mombasa and are being treated as terror suspects.
A Multi-agency task force has been launched to probe on their narrative as well as unmask their identities.
Initial police reports indicate there were about 80 Tanzanian and 26 Kenyans in the two boats.
Kenya Navy early this early intercepted an Iranian ship off the Mau Coast and upon searches it was found with narcotics on it.
The foreign crew together with some Kenyan accomplices were arrested and now are on trial.
Another luxury yacht belonging to Singaporean was intercepted within Kilifi Creek and detectives also said it had narcotics.
The yacht’s Seychellois captain plus other crew members were arrested and are now facing charges in Mombasa law courts.
The arrests of 106 suspects comes hours after Al-Shabaab terror group attempted to conduct a seaborne terror attack against AMISOM troops in Mogadishu Somalia.
