Kenya honoured the late Salah Farah a Muslim from Mandera County in northeastern region.
Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in honouring Salah Farah as a fallen hero and a true patriot. The president awarded Salah Farah the Order of the Grand Warrior.
Salah Farah will be remembered for shielding Christians when the bus they were travelling in was attacked by the Somalia based Islamist fighters, Al-Shabaab.
The militants ordered Muslims to stay on one side and Christians on the other but the Salah Farah disobeyed the order saying the militant should kill them all as Kenyans and not people from a particular religion.
"I posthumously award Salah Farah Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya,” said President Kenyatta. “He was a Muslim who was killed for shielding Christians. I salute Farah, who was a teacher, who died protecting Christians during an al-Shabaab attack.”
Salah Farah was the deputy head teacher of the Mandera township primary school. According to survivor of the bus attack, he was shot by Al-Shabaab after refusing to be separated from Christians during the raid. He was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment but he succumbed to the gun injury and died on January 19, 2016.
Al-Shabaab fighters have used the similar method before where on November 22 they killed Christians and spared Muslims during a raid on a Nairobi bound bus.
President Kenyatta awarded Salah Farah on Thursday 31st March 2016 during the State of the Nation address.
The president also requested a moment of silence to honour KDF fallen soldiers while in the line of duty.
If our forces were on combat alert.the way Ethiopia is,. salah would not have been killed. We wait untill the terrorist have accomplished their mission is we we act .and when kdf acts. It leaves alot to be desired….they use old svhool tactics
