The Kenya Defense Forces (Air Force) took delivery of first two C-27J Spartan Tactical Military Transport Aircraft (TMAT) over the weekend.
The tactical military aircraft were procured from Leonardo Italy at a cost of KSh20 billion (S$198 448 276) between November 2017 and February 2018 arrived in Nairobi on Saturday 1st February 2020, in the morning and will replace the ageing DHC-5 Buffalos fleet.
Kenya Defense Forces had ordered three aircraft and the purchase was funded from loans advanced to Treasury by private banks.
The C-27J Spartan aircraft will greatly improve logistical efficiency, and most importantly boost the overall operational capabilities the Kenya Air Force (KAF).

The C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft integrates the same propulsion system and advanced avionics as the C-130J Hercules Transporter. The aircraft has two AE2100-D2/D2A engines rated at 4,637 SHP each. Has excellent increase avionics architecture to guarantee increased safety and reliability in whatever environmental condition and operational theaters. Other optional systems include; self-protection, head-up displays and air-to-air refueling
The Kenya Defense Forces C-27J Spartan Tactical Military Transport Aircraft roles include, transport of the troop and materials, medical evacuation, paratroops and cargo loads airdrops, humanitarian support, search and rescue (SAR), logistic supply, firefighting and support for civil emergency operations among others.
