29th January 2016: Kenya has deployed a team of bomb experts to the Kenya and Somali border in Lamu County to detonate improvised Explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines mounted by the al Shabaab militants.
The team lead by KDF has been deployed to detonate the explosives that have been used for attacks and decoys along roads at the Kiunga-Baragoi-Milimani area which has experienced frequent terror attacks from the militants crossing over from Somalia.
The personnel were dispatched with armored vehicles and modern bomb detectors and bomb-disposal equipment in an operation spearheaded by the Kenya Defence Forces. KDF has been combing the area and the vast Boni Forest and have help avert major attacks plotted against civilians with Boni Forest as an operation base.

I will fault the idea of using money for favours!! It is we the citizens making KDF make wrong selections during recruitments when we come with silver and gold!!
can’t this be utilised by Amisom against alshabaab?
It would be more wise to build their camps Near Kenyan border to prevent ambushed alshabaabs fleeing into Kenya as innocent civilians!! The border should be closed with immediate effect and anyone found crossing into or out of Kenya should not only be grilled but imprisoned for not less than 5 yrs!!
They should also set satellite camps within every 20 Km radius upto 100km from the Main border camps to act as a buffer zone.
In Mandera, they should do a house to house search for illegal weapons, person to person grilling and prevent interfearance from the media and political class!! Media & Politicians are undermining your efforts and effectiveness in doing your good work.
