Kenya Army Special Forces Foil a would be Terror Attack in Kenya’s North Eastern

Event; 8 terrorists from Somali based Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen militants on Monday 19^th 2015 at around 10pm, attempted to cross the Kenya-Somali border through Boni Forest.

Intelligence reports show the terrorists were on a mission to conduct an attack targeting farming Christians villages in Kenya’s Frontier County of Lamu.

Kenya Army Special Forces foiled the would be massacre, killing 2 members of the militia group while 6 others escaped with severe gun injuries.

Security personnel recovered 4 grenades and 2 AK-47 from the terrorists.

Event activity

At about 10 pm on Monday, Intelligence leading KDF Special Forces CT-Operations scout party detected 8 militants attempting to cross the Kenya-Somali border.

Al-Shabaab planned to conduct a gun and grenade attack on the border villages in what terrorism analysts at Strategic Intelligence Service view as a repeat of the Mpeketoni attacks.

Analysis

Al Shabaab militants continue planning to attack soft targets in Kenya particularly Christian dominated regions along the Coast and Northern Kenya.

The cross-border attacks indicate that the group adopted new strategies of breaching border security.

Kenya is in the process of constructing of a wall that will separate Somalia and Kenya to curb terrorism.

Further analysis indicate that Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahedeen are fast establishing major operational bases in forests, reserves and thickets close to the Kenyan border.
