Military Intelligence reports indicate activation and deployment of special Kenya army units near the Somali-Kenya border to destroy mobile units of the Al-Qaeda branch in East Africa, Harakat Al-Shabaab Al-Mujahideen movement roaming around a border village known as Likoley.
Special units and Artillery units deployed around Likoley border village inside Somalia late morning saturday. The units have identified and zeroed on the actual coordinates of the enemy positions. Several of these positions and resources have been destroyed.
Military Intelligence reports an IED was detonated targeting army personnel. Those injured sustained injuries and were airlifted for medical attention.
Remnants of the attackers were unable to leave the area after army units deployed around the area and have been surrounded. Intelligence estimates 60 militants are holed in the village. Army gunship helicopters are picking out targets while providing vital aerial cover to ground forces.
Target Likoley, a strategic frontier transit village lies approximately 40 kilometers inside Somalia from the Kenya-Somalia border.
Elements of the Al-Shabaab terror group attempted to ambush a Kenya army convoy in the morning of Saturday 19th September 2015 but failed. The army conducted a counter-strike involving the Army-50th Air Cavalry battalion.
BDA Reports show 15 gunmen have been killed in the counter-strike.
