Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) vowed to track down and eliminate Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terrorists who attempted to attack their camp in Lamu on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning.
According to a KDF press release, four terrorists were killed in the fierce fight and weapons including a rocket propelled grenade (RPG), four AK 47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and two hand grenade were recovered.
Col. Obonyo also confirmed the ongoing Operation Linda Boni and troop’s deployment in the border county of Lamu.
Officers drawn from General Service Unit, National Intelligence Service and other security agencies were deployed last year to eliminate Jaysh Ayman, an al-Shabaab faction that operates in the dense Boni Forest, which traverses the Kenya-Somalia border.
Separately, eight terror suspects were arrested in Malindi. The arrested suspects are believed to be members of an active terror cell linked to Jaysh Ayman operating in the town and from Boni.
KDF spokesman David Obonyo called on members of the public to remain calm saying KDF will pursue and eliminate Al-Shabaab to their last.
