Soldiers from 4 RIFLES fire a 105mm artillery gun during an exercise in Kenya. The 4th Battalion The Rifles (4 RIFLES) were in Kenya undergoing intensive training to be the British Army's next Spearhead Lead Element - a rapid response force ready to tackle a world-wide crisis at 24 hours notice. This can range from a major domestic terrorist attack to the evacuation of British nationals overseas. Around 700 personnel left their Wiltshire base and were joined by other units including artillery and engineers for a five week intensive exercise at the British Army Training Unit Kenya, otherwise known as BATUK.

46 Al-Shabaab militants were killed late Friday (13 November 2015) when they attempted to overrun an AMISOM army camp in the outskirts of the port of Kismayu, Somalia.

According to the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) military intelligence sources, ‘over 80 terrorists from the Al-Qaeda branch in East Africa Harakat Al-Shabaab Al-Mujahideen movement launched a co-ordinated terror attack targeting Somali Army base located 10 kilometers from Kismayu town’.

The base, used to be the Somali Airforce academy but was run down by the war in Somalia, but currently being used by the Somali army as base.

Kenya Defense Forces were called in by the SNA to reinforce their defenses and mitigate loss of troops.

Kenya Army quickly deployed and offered support using both special forces (commandos and sniper units), artillery and infantry units.

The counter strike neutralized 46 terrorists. “We counted 46 dead terrorists by mid-morning” Army sources confirmed.

Somali National Army lost 17 soldiers.

Kenya Army continues to support Somalia end terrorism in the war-torn country.
