Britain arrested 54 year old Karenzi Karake, Director General of Rwanda’s National Intelligence and Security Services at London Heathrow Airport on Saturday.
Intelligence services report that Spanish non-governmental organizations (NGOs) backing FDLR were behind the arrest.
Britain insists that Director General was arrested since London was fulfilling its legal obligation, following the issue of a valid European arrest warrant.
The warrant was issued by a Spanish High Court judge, Fernando Andreu in 2008.
judge, Fernando Andreu accuses DG Karenzi Karake alongside 40 Rwandan military and political leaders, of conducting reprisal attacks after the genocide.
Kigali is working closely with Britain to identify a solution to the impasse which is likely to further sour their diplomatic relations.
