EVENT SUMMARY
13th December 2015, in another unprecedented turn of events, Islamic State is outraged that Al Shabaab militant group is eliminating jihadist fighters who are decamping its faction to ISIS fold.
The latest report reveal that the leadership of the Islamic State is angered by the move accusing of the Somali’s Al Qaeda affiliated of killing jihadi leaders alongside other fighters who had freely shifted loyalty without coercion to its side.
In barely a month, Al Shabaab has been killing senior commanders who allegedly pledged baya’h to self proclaimed caliph and leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
In Somali’s Puntaland, Sheikh Muumin led a faction of Al Shabaab into pledging allegiance to Islamic State. Several Al Shabaab top figures are allegedly reported to have defected in prefer of the Islamic state with the latest intelligence reports indicating the Lower Juba Commander Mohamed Kuno alias Gamadheere having joined ISIS in late November 2015.
The move of Al Shabaab figures into pro-ISIS faction in Somalia has been met with resistance from the Somali based Islamist group’s leadership.
Al Shabaab Amniyaat wing was tasked to hunt down the ‘traitors’ (who have defected) and kill them citing the group wound not entertain disunity within its faction.
Since then the splinter faction of pro-ISIS has face imminent threat from their parent group and several fighters including five commanders were recently eliminated.
At least two American fighters pro-ISIS surrendered to Somalia Federal forces citing imminent death from Al Shabaab.
Last week Al Shabaab killed a Sudanese pro-ISIS who took part in killing a U.S. diplomat in Khartoum together with his driver.
Islamic State on Friday through its affiliated websites said Al Shabaab leaders ordered the killing and detention of dozens of jihadist who expressed their willingness to join ISIS.
In this recent turn of events the ISIS jihadist rivalry in trying to expand foothold in East Africa’s horn of Africa nation is facing fierce resistance from the Al Shabaab leadership who have vowed to remain with Al Qaeda.
The government of Somalia backed with African Union troops has also said they will scale-up operations to bar ISIS expansion in Somalia.
why can’t Al shabaab transit from being a rag tag militia into a political faction that can participate in the development of Somaliland, let it follow example of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas of Palestine
