Sunday 15th November 2015, Galmudug government forces battled the Al Shabaab elements in Harardhere locality taking several villages from their control.
Forces loyal to the newly established Galmudug interim administration launched several operations against perceived Al Shabaab militant’s hideouts in Mudug region.
The forces pushed the militant in several villages including Hanra and Qosol-Tiire located in the outskirts of Haradhere. Harardhere locality in Mudug region of central Somalia has been an Al Shabaab stronghold for several years.
The Al Qaeda affiliated branch in Somalia has been forcibly collecting Zakah (an Islamic levy on wealth) from the residents to sustain their terrorist’s group operations.
Locals who have been complaining of extortion and living in fear from the militants lauded the government forces efforts for pushing the militants out of their locality.
The residents called on administration to conduct similar military operations, intensify security patrols in the area to avoid the militants coming back to reclaim the liberated villages saying they are ready to share information/intelligence to secure their villages off Al Shabaab.
